PART A: Sizzling Hot Topics

There are 5 questions to ask yourself before picking a topic for your article:

  • How do you want to be known by a reader of your article? How do you want to position yourself?
  • What is personal for you? Personal subjects can convey passion, and can draw like minded people your way. Choose a subject which really jazzes you, and expand your ideas into a list of pointers for a tips or "how to" article.
  • What is your purpose for writing the article? If you want to promote your business, pick a subject that is promoting the services you can provide.
  • What are your life experiences? Quite often, the topic for your first article is hidden in past travels, education, the birth of a child, a former relationship, or a favorite interest. Get personal, and your readers will fall in love with your written word.
  • And lastly, and possibly most important, what is of greatest significance to your target audience?

  1. Suspense - "The Secret Life of Stay-At-Home-Moms”
  2. Tell A Story - “The Path of the Everyday Hero”

PART C: The 5 Components of an Effective Article

  • The Title – see above
  • The Promise – you've got to make a promise to your reader that you will fulfill in the article.
  • The Story - If your promise is "3 Steps To Getting Your Husband Hungry For Love" you’'re going to have to show the reader the 3 steps to getting their husband hungry for love.
  • The call to action – close with a strong call to action. What do you want your reader to do for themselves based on the information you just gave them? In others word’s, make sure they not only consume the information but take an action so that they can implement it.
  • The author's info – your bio will always go at the very end. Write a good two or three line bio that also has a strong call to action. Do you want your reader to call you? To visit your web site? What do you want them to do?

PART D: Getting Published Online and Off

Getting published online is as easy as writing the article and submitting it to the numerous article and ezine submissions sites on the web. When submitting your articles online, the majority of the time, you will be asked to format your articles so that they are no more than 60 characters per line. You will also be asked to provide your author bi-line (make sure to hotlink your website).

Getting published offline requires that someone accept your article but other than that it’'s not too dissimilar from getting published online. You'll need to find out the submission requirements of the publication you are interested in. And submit your article, according to their requirements, along with a query letter.
